Day 1: Flight to Tokyo

Standard

Hello from Tokyo, Japan! After a very long journey, I made the trip from Toronto to Tokyo without a hitch. We started off at a not-so-bright and early 4:30 a.m. and if you know me at all, I am definitely not a morning person…

My flight out wasn’t until 9:55 but security always takes a while. My sister, Katherine, and her fiancé, “Jr”, we’re supposed to take a different flight but due to significant delays, they ended up on my flight! Made things a lot easier for us, to be honest.

The flights were pretty much uneventful. We were blessed with clear skies while flying over Alaska, though, so we saw some great views.

We landed at Narita International Airport around 4:40 p.m. We looked a little rough, but who wouldn’t after a 13+ hour flight? We took a while to get everything we needed from the airport and then took the Narita Express into Tokyo. From there, we got to navigate the the ridiculously complicated Tokyo transportation network.

Speaking of which, I wish I could convey just how crowded and fast-paced it was! By the time we were on the trains, it was about 9:00 p.m. And the Yamanote Line trains were still crammed with people, like a can of sardines.

Although it was ultra confusing, we still managed to locate our hostel in Asakusa. Since it was late, we just dropped our bags and walked around the neighbourhood a little, stopping to eat some ramen since we were really hungry by then.

And so ended our (really tiring) day! Tomorrow, we’ll be doing some actual touring!
